Hi All I chose the Social Exchange Theory for our discussion this week. This theory simply explains human behaviors in relationships in terms of costs, rewards, profits and losses. The theory attempts to prove that we keep people in our lives that bring value to a relationship. Think about the costs of running a business. The costs need to lower then the rewards in order for the business to make money. Social Exchange Theory is just like that. The costs in a relationship are the effort, energy, time and frustration you put into them. The rewards are feeling of satisfaction, companionship, achievement or a feeling of belonging. These rewards need to outweigh the costs in order for you to stay in this relationship or keep certain individuals in your life.
